Our most technically demanding government project. Micheweni District Hospital on Pemba Island was delivered at a contract value of TZS 4.8 billion and now provides clinical services to 123,379 people across the district.

The project required full clinical specification management — infection control provisions, patient flow planning, medical services co-ordination, and all the documentation required by the Ministry of Health and ZPPDA. Delivered on programme. Delivered to specification.

The Project That Started It All

Mkoani Hotel
Renovation — 2020

In 2020 the Government of Zanzibar awarded Benchmark Engineering its first government commission: the complete renovation of Pemba Hotel in Mkoani. It was a defining moment. A derelict, crumbling building on one of Pemba Island's busiest streets — handed to us to transform into a modern, functional government hospitality facility.

We delivered it. New facade, complete interior rebuild, all services — and a result that the Government was so proud of, they commissioned a documentary film of the transformation. That project put Benchmark on the map as a government contractor and opened the door to every major public-sector commission that followed.
